Baseball Places Four on All-FAA Team

Four members of the Brunswick baseball team were honored by the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA). Senior co-captains Aaron Sabato (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Trystan Sarcone (Greenwich, Conn.) were named to the first team, while juniors Jake Hyde (Darien, Conn.) and Reed Mascolo (Fairfield, Conn.) were honorable mention picks. The quartet helped guide the 17-5 Bruins to the FAA title this spring.

Sabato, who is committed to play baseball at the University of North Carolina next season, led the Bruins in numerous offensive categories including: walks (19), hits (35), double (8), triples (4) and home runs (6). The slugger also led the team in RBI (20), runs scored (34), batting average (.556), on-base percentage (.655) and slugging (1.095).

Sarcone, slated to play for Dartmouth College next year, was a key component on the mound and from the plate. The lefty hurler was 2-0 with one save in five appearances in 2018. Over 19.2 innings, Sarcone fanned a team-high 33 batters and owned a 1.424 ERA. In the batter’s box, Sarcone was second on the team in singles (17), RBI (18) and home runs (1).

Hyde had a breakout season for the Bruins as the right-hander was 3-0 on the mound and led the team with three saves. Hyde also posted a miniscule 0.768 ERA. From the plate, the lefty batter was second on the team in doubles (5) and triples (1), while finishing third in hits (22) and walks (12).

Mascolo led the pitching staff with a 5-1 record in seven starts and was tops in innings pitched (32.0). Mascolo was second on the squad with 31 strike-outs in 2018.
