Baseball Advances to FAA Finals

Second-seeded Brunswick dispatched #3 RCDS in the semifinals of the FAA Tournament by an 12-1 margin in six innings. Brunswick slugger Aaron Sabato ended the game early with a line-drive, two-run homer in the sixth. The win propels the Bruins (16-5) to their fourth-straight FAA title game.

The location, date, and time of the championship are to be determined, as Brunswick will face the winner of the #1 King/#4 Hopkins game set for Friday. The highest remaining seed will host the final.

 

Brunswick struck first with a run in the bottom of the third, as Trystan Sarcone drove in Aidan Redahan from third base with a two-out single.

 

The Wildcats tied the game at one in the top of the fourth, as the leadoff batter stroked a single to left and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches by Brunswick starting pitcher Reed Mascolo. A two-out single plated the tying run for RCDS.

 

The Bruins took a 6-1 lead in the home half of the fourth with five runs, including four runs on a pair of errors with two outs. Redahan first made it a 2-1 game with a one-out sac-fly that scored Sabato, who led off the inning with a single. With two away, Brunswick plated four more runs on a pair of errors to take a five-run lead.

 

In the fifth, Sabato roped an RBI double and was driven in on a single by James Sassi, as the Bruins built an 8-1 advantage.

 

The Bruins tacked four more runs on the Wildcats’ starting pitcher in the sixth, eventually ending the game on Sabato’s sixth four-bagger of the season. Sabato rocketed a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall to halt the game at 12-1.

 

Mascolo (5-1) earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing one earned run while whiffing five batters. Brunswick reliever Joseph Henry pitched an efficient, eight-pitch 1-2-3 sixth.

 

Sabato went 3-4 on the day and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. The slugger had three RBI and scored three runs. Sassi added a pair of singles and an RBI, as J.D. Sparks added a single and a double for the Bruins.
