Late Run Halts Lacrosse in National Showdown

Brunswick, the second-ranked team in the country, fell to #3 Salisbury on the road, 13-10. Tied 9-9 in the fourth quarter, the Knights netted four-straight goals to key their three-goal victory. The loss halts a remarkable 29-game winning streak for the Bruins, as Brunswick’s record moves to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in NEW1 action.
 
The Bruins jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game, as Jack Ocken and Christian Ronda netted goals for Brunswick. Salisbury countered with two goals, before Cooper Moore finished off a Xander Dickson feed at 5:28 in the frame for a 3-2 advantage. That would be the final lead for the Bruins in the game, as the Knights pumped in a pair of goals to take their first lead with 3:27 left in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, Ocken tied the game at 4-4 with his second marker on the day, but Salisbury notched a late goal to retake the lead, 5-4, heading into the second quarter.
 
Salisbury made it a two-goal advantage to open the second quarter with a tally at 11:05. Dickson netted the next two goals of the game to tie the contest at 6-6 with only 1:41 left in the first half. The Knights rallied with two more late goals to take an 8-6 lead into the evening intermission.
 
The Knights (12-0, 9-0) added a goal at 9:10 of the third quarter to build a three-goal advantage at 9-6. The Bruins responded with a three-goal run with successive tallies by Dickson, Jack Montinaro and Ronda to tie the game for the fifth time.
 
In a 9-9 contest in the final stanza, Salisbury rattled off four-straight goals by the 8:59 mark to take a 13-9 lead over the visitors. Brunswick’s Michael Gottlieb added the final goal of the contest at 6:00, as Salisbury held on for the 13-10 victory.
 
The Bruins return to action on Monday, May 14, with a league contest at Trinity-Pawling.
