Brunswick goalie Patrick Burkinshaw made a dozen saves in the Bruins’ 10-5 win over Avon Old Farms on Wednesday at Cosby Field. Brunswick, ranked second in the nation, improves to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in NEW1 conference action, while the Winged Beavers suffered their first conference loss (11-5, 7-1).
Brunswick, currently on a 29-game winning streak, jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one quarter, as four different Bruins scored in the frame.
The Bruins’ Jack Ocken notched his second goal of the game to open the second quarter with a man-up tally at 5:10. The teams exchanged goals over the next two minutes, before the Winged Beavers notched the final goal of the half with a marker with 9.5 seconds left.
While the Bruins held a 6-3 lead to start the third quarter, Avon Old Farms made it a two-goal game at 9:53 with a transition goal. Brunswick’s Cooper Moore countered with a sweeping lefty goal at 3:11 to give the hosts a 7-4 lead.
Moore opened the fourth quarter with a tally off an Ocken assist at 8:13, as the Bruins added two more goals over the next three minutes to take a 10-4 lead with just over five minutes left to play. Avon Old Farms netted the last goal of the game with under a minute to play for the 10-5 final score.
