Brunswick fell behind by two early goals to Choate on Wednesday but powered past the Wild Boars to win by a 16-8 margin on Cosby Field. Brunswick, ranked second nationally, improved to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in league play with the victory.
Following two quick goals by Choate to open the game, Brunswick responded with four straight markers to take a 4-2 lead with 2:40 left in the first quarter. Jack Montinaro netted two goals and had an assist during the run. In the final minutes of the frame, a Choate goal was countered with a tally by Brunswick’s Cooper Moore with 43.3 seconds left in the quarter.
Brunswick took command in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 4-1. Four different Brunswick players scored to build a 9-4 lead, as Christian Ronda and Moore both notched their second goals of the game. Choate’s lone tally in the second stanza was in a man-down situation.
The visitors opened the second half with two goals inside the first 2:26, tightening the contest, before Brunswick went on another four-goal run. Michael Gottlieb scored a goal on his birthday to start the Brunswick run, while Moore tallied two more goals. Montinaro netted the Bruins’ 13th goal of the game to cap the run with 4:28 left in the third. Choate ended the frame with a goal with 7.5 seconds on the clock, setting the score at 13-7.
Brunswick netted the first three goals of the fourth quarter to take a 16-7 lead, before Choate capped the scoring at 16-8.
All three Brunswick goalies played in the game, including starter Patrick Burkinshaw (seven saves). Two reserve goalies combined to make four saves, as Christian Barnard made two stops, while Will Prout made two saves on his birthday.
Wilson Stephenson led the Bruins with seven groundballs, as Edward Glassmeyer picked up four GB’s.
