Brunswick topped league foe Hamden Hall on Tuesday, beating the Hornets on the road, 10-2. Brunswick pitcher Reed Mascolo (3-1) went the distance for the win, as the Bruins move to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in FAA play.
Trailing 1-0, the Bruins tied the game with a run in the fourth inning, as Marc McGuire scored from third base on a wild pitch.
The Bruins scored four runs in the fifth inning, as Ethan Hynes started the scoring with a one-out RBI single. After a walk to JD Sparks, McGuire followed with a two-run single to center, as Sparks advance to third on the play. An infield ground-out by Aidan Redahan plated Sparks to cap the scoring, as the Bruins took a 5-1 lead.
Leading 5-2 in the top of the seventh, Brunswick blew the game open with five more runs. In the frame, Sparks drove in a run with an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Jake Hyde roped a triple to right that scored two more runs and later scored on a single by James Sassi for a 10-2 lead.
Mascolo tossed 7.0 innings for the win and whiffed four batters while he scattered three hits and allowed two earned runs.
McGuire went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Hyde was 2-4 in the game with a double and two RBI. Sassi picked up a pair of singles and an RBI, as Sparks added a double and an RBI while scoring two runs.
The Bruins return to action with a non-league game at Salisbury on Thursday, May 3.
