Baseball Wins Fifth in a Row

Brunswick picked up a non-league win over James Monroe from the Bronx on Saturday, topping the Eagles by a 11-2 score. The home win extends the Bruins' win streak to five, as Brunswick owns an 11-3 overall mark.

The 27-3 Eagles, a powerhouse in New York City high school baseball, struck first with a run in the top of the third inning.

Brunswick countered in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs to regain the lead. A familiar recipe of a two-out rally sparked the scoring surge for the Bruins. Aaron Sabato and Trystan Sarcone notched back-to-back RBI singles to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Later, with Sabato on third and Sarcone on first, Sabato scored on a double-steal for a 3-1 Brunswick advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth, another two-out rally produced four runs for the Bruins. In the frame, James Sassi smacked a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1, as Thomas Doster drilled a two-run double to center to give Brunswick a commanding 7-1 advantage.

Following a solo homer by the Eagles in the sixth, Brunswick added another four runs in the bottom of the inning. Aidan Redahan drove in two runs with a one-out single to left, as Jake Hyde later laced a run-scoring double with two outs. Sassi wrapped up the scoring with a two-run single, as the Bruins cruised to the 11-2 win.

Hyde (3-0) picked up the win for the Bruins, tossing six innings of six-hit ball. The junior allowed two earned runs while striking out three. The pair of runs were the first allowed by the hurler on the season, as Hyde’s ERA now stands at a miniscule 0.70 over 20 innings. Sabato made his first appearance on the mound this season, throwing a scoreless seventh inning for Brunswick.

Seven different Bruins collected hits, as Sassi (3-4, three RBI) and Hyde (2-3, double, one RBI) had multi-hit performances. Doster’s double and Redahan’s single produced two RBI apiece for Brunswick.

The Bruins return to action Tuesday, May 1, with an FAA road game at Hamden Hall.
