Lacrosse Moves to 9-0

Brunswick topped league foe Hotchkiss on Saturday at Cosby Field, 15-4. With the win, the Bruins, ranked third in the nation, improve to 9-0 and 5-0 in New England 1 West. Up next for the Bruins is a home showdown against Hill Academy (Ontario, Canada), currently ranked second in the nation, on Wednesday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m.

Brunswick took a 2-1 lead after one quarter, as Christian Ronda opened the game with a goal 33 seconds into the frame, finishing off a Jack Montinaro pass. Following a Hotchkiss goal to tie the game at 1-1 with 9:02 on the clock, Montinaro fed Xander Dickson from behind the Hotchkiss cage for the go-ahead goal at 2:42, moments after a Brunswick timeout.

The Bruins extended their lead to 3-1 on a top-shelf tally by AJ Delgado off a Ronda feed at 11:02 in the second quarter.

Dickson notched his second goal at 7:28, scoring with a low righty blast following a dodge that started from behind the Hotchkiss cage.

Greyson Wolfram notched the next two goals, finishing off feeds from Ronda at 5:45 and from Jack Montinaro nearly two minutes later to extend the Brunswick lead to 6-1.

Ronda capped the first half with a jumping catch-and-shoot score from point blank range, as Michael Mauricio set up the goal at 1:54.

Trailing 7-1 in the third quarter, Hotchkiss scored an in-close goal to end a 23:18 scoreless drought.

Brunswick countered with a trio of goals over a 1:10 span. Montinaro bookended a pair of goals around Dickson’s hat trick tally, as the Bruins’ lead grew to 10-2 with 5:08 to play in the third quarter.

Hotchkiss halted the Brunswick scoring burst with a goal at 4:25 in the third, setting the score at 10-3 before Coulter Mackesy sniped a lefty shot from the right side of the goal line extended for the Bruins.

The Bruins opened the fourth quarter with two goals by Hugo Gorman and one marker by Jeffrey Matthews, prior to a Bearcats goal at 4:38, setting the score at 14-4. Mackesy polished off the day’s scoring by netting a hat-trick tally on a man-up situation with 1:27 left in the game.
