Brunswick earned another cup win over a previously unbeaten Fairfield Prep rowing program on Saturday at Cedar Creek. Earlier in the season, the Bruins won the Richard Curtis Trophy and the Brunswick-Tabor Cup.
Brunswick swept three varsity eights races to retain the Kulaga Cup, which was inaugurated in 2017 in memory of Fairfield Prep’s Joey Kulaga ‘19. The Kulaga Cup is awarded to the team that wins the majority of the three varsity eights races in the annual dual meet.
The Brunswick Varsity Eight (coxswain: Diego Jasson, stroke: David Sorbaro, 7: Austin Sammons, 6: Matthew Jacobson, 5: Jack Mozingo, 4: Scott Gibbons, 3: Hank Michalik, 2: Tommy Kimberlin, bow: Christian Ruf) took an early lead and eventually pulled away for an open-water victory over the Jesuits over the 1400 meter course.
The Brunswick Second Varsity Eight was also able to pull away from a strong FP crew, while the Brunswick 3V had to work hard to hold off a charging FP boat, winning by 2.7 seconds.
The Brunswick Freshmen won by a length, while the Brunswick 5th boat lost in the final race of the day.
The Brunswick varsity boats will carry their undefeated records into a big race on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, May 6, against several notable New England programs, including St. John's Shrewsbury (Mass.) and Boston College H.S.
