Baseball Wins with Walk-Off Single

Jake Hyde’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie against visiting Salesian, as the Bruins won the non-league game, 1-0. With the win, the Bruins improve to 6-2 overall.

The Brunswick bats were quiet until the bottom of the seventh, as two Salesian pitchers combined to toss six innings of no-hit ball before Aaron Sabato’s lead-off single in the seventh broke up the no-no.

In the decisive final inning, Sabato slapped a clean single to center and later reached second base after an infield put-out on a ball hit by James Sassi.

With one out in the home half of the seventh, Hyde stepped to the plate and roped a 1-2 offering from the Salesian hurler to center, driving in Sabato to end the game.

Sabato and Hyde’s singles accounted for all the hits for Brunswick, as Hyde and JD Sparks each drew a base-on-balls.

Sparks, Brunswick's starting pitcher, went the distance to pick up his second win of the season. The righty scattered six hits without allowing a run. Sparks gutted out the win, holding off Salesian in four different innings, as the visitors put baserunners in scoring position in the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. With the shut-out, Sparks’ ERA dropped to 0.538.

Brunswick is scheduled to play Choate on the road on Monday, April 16.
