Rowers Sweep Four Races, Retain Brunswick-Tabor Cup

Brunswick returned from Lake Quinsigamond outside of Worcester, Mass., with a four-race sweep, winning 1V, 2V, 3V and 4V/Freshmen races on Saturday. With the 1V victory, Brunswick retains the Brunswick-Tabor Cup, holding a 5-2 all-time record against the Seawolves in the competition.

 

In the 1,500-meter event with a consistent cross tailwind, the Bruins dominated each race wire-to-wire, winning by impressive margins in their first competition of the spring.

 

The 1V boat (coxswain: Diego Jasson, stroke: David Sorbaro, 7: Austin Sammons, 6: Matthew Jacobson, 5: Jack Mozingo, 4: Scott Gibbons, 3: Hank Michalik, 2: Tommy Kimberlin, bow: Christian Ruf) jumped out to an early lead and remained poised in the choppy conditions. Brunswick finished 15.6 seconds ahead of Shrewsbury and more than 17 seconds ahead of third-place Tabor.

 

The Brunswick 2V and 3V both had outstanding rows, while the Brunswick Freshmen Eight also cruised to victory in their event.

 

The Bruins travel to Salisbury on Saturday, April 14, and will compete for the Richard Curtis Trophy.
