Brunswick jumped out to an 8-0 lead over visiting Loomis Chaffee and cruised to a 15-5 league win over the Pelicans on Saturday on Cosby Field. The nation’s fourth-ranked team improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in NEW1 play.
Five different Bruins scored in the first quarter, as Christian Ronda and Jack Montinaro each netted two goals and had an assist during the 8-0 run.
Loomis (2-5, 0-2) ended the scoring run in the second quarter, netting the opening goal. Brunswick’s Michael Mauricio countered the Loomis goal with a tally off a feed from Harrison Caponiti. After a pair of Pelican goals, Brunswick’s Michael Gottlieb made it a 10-3 game, netting the final goal before the half.
The Bruins extended their lead in the third quarter, scoring all three goals of the frame. Mauricio set up the first goal with a pass to Lucas Delgado, while Brody Firestein finished off a feed from Coulter Mackesy to make it a 12-3 game. Peter Mullen capped the third-quarter scoring with a goal from Delgado.
With Brunswick leading 13-3 to start the fourth quarter, each team exchanged a pair of goals for the 15-5 final. Mackesy scored one of the goals and set up Jeffrey Matthews on the Bruins’ final tally.
All three goalies, including starter Patrick Burkinshaw and reserves Christian Barnard (seven saves) and Will Prout (three saves), played in the game.
