Lacrosse Wins Conference Opener at Deerfield

Brunswick opened with a 5-0 run against Deerfield on Saturday en route to a decisive 10-3 road win in the first league game for both schools. The Bruins, ranked fourth nationally in the latest Inside Lacrosse/Under Armour poll, improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in NEW1 play, while Deerfield falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in league action.

 

The Bruins built a 4-0 lead after one quarter, as Xander Dickson notched a pair of goals, while AJ Delgado and Greyson Wolfram also scored. Michael Mauricio added an assist on the second Dickson tally.

 

Dickson added a hat-trick goal to open the second quarter before Deerfield finally got on the board with a goal later in the second. Dickson stayed busy on offense, adding the first of his game-high four assists on a goal by Delgado to cap the scoring in the first half.

 

Neither team scored in the third quarter, as the Bruins took a 6-1 lead into the final frame.

 

Following a goal by Brunswick’s Cooper Moore to open the fourth quarter, Deerfield answered with tally to make it a 7-2 contest. Down the stretch, the Bruins outscored Deerfield 3-1, as Dickson fed teammates Jack Montinaro, Moore, and Christian Ronda on fourth quarter tallies.

 

For the game, Dickson collected seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) and shared the team lead with four groundballs.

 

Brunswick’s Matt Restieri drew the challenging assignment to cover Deerfield’s top attackman, but the Bruin defenseman was up to the challenge, limiting Deerfield’s top shooter to just one goal on the day.

 

Brunswick goalie Patrick Burkinshaw finished the game with 11 saves, as Jordan Ginder was particularly strong on the face-off X, winning 13/15 attempts. Moore and Dickson led the Bruins with four groundballs apiece, as Chris Burdick and Jack Ocken each grabbed three groundballs.
