Following back-to-back undefeated FAA seasons for the tennis team, head coach Ryan Abraham returns an experienced line-up for 2018. The third-year head coach, with an overall record of 19-6, believes he has another strong team.
“Last season (10-4) was great, as we had a very young team and they have all gained valuable experience from the matches last year,” said Abraham.
Senior co-captain Willie Turchetta returns to his familiar spot at #1. Turchetta has been at the top of the ladder for the Bruins for three-straight seasons.
Junior Ben Powis and sophomore Ryan Glanville join Turchetta in the top three for the Bruins, while senior co-captain Hayden Hoover will compete in the top six this season.
While another undefeated run through the FAA is one of the team goals for the Bruins, Abraham believes it's not just the physical approach of the game that can yield positive results. “We focused a lot on the mental aspect of the game and how to win the big points,” Abraham said.
Besides a full FAA slate, Brunswick scheduled some top programs in 2018, including Horace Mann and Taft.
If the Bruins continue their strong showing on the courts, another run at the New England Championship will cap the season. Last season, the Bruins bowed out in the semifinal round of the NEITA Class B Tournament.
Brunswick opens its 2018 campaign with a road game at Horace Mann on April 2.
