Brunswick broke open a 3-3 game against Landon with an eight-goal run, as the Bruins pulled away to beat the Bears by a 12-6 margin on Friday. The non-league win gives the Bruins, ranked third in the latest Inside Lacrosse/Under Armour national poll, a 1-0 overall record. The road win also avenges the Bruins only loss in 2017, a 11-6 setback to Landon in last season’s opening contest.
In the first quarter, Cooper Moore alternated goals twice with the Bears, as teammate A.J. Delgado notched the final goal of the frame, giving the Bruins a 3-2 lead.
Following a game-tying goal by Landon to open the second quarter, the Bruins started their decisive eight-goal run.
Moore was involved with three straight goals in the second, netting two tallies and dishing out an assist to Christian Ronda. Moore’s final tally, a sweeping low lefty shot, gave the Bruins a 6-3 lead with only seconds left before the half.
Brunswick pulled away with five more third-quarter goals to finish the eight-goal run, as the visitors took a commanding 11-3 lead over Landon (3-2).
Xander Dickson netted three goals in the frame, while Greyson Wolfram and face-off specialist Jordan Ginder each scored solo markers.
Landon halted the Brunswick run with a pair of tallies to open the fourth quarter. Leading 11-5, Dickson netted the Bruins’ final goal with his fourth tally, before the Bears capped the scoring later in the frame.
Ginder won 18-22 face-offs and picked up a team-high six groundballs, while Wilson Stephenson grabbed five GB’s. Brunswick goalie Patrick Burkinshaw made 13 saves.
