Hockey Falls in First Round of Empire Cup

Brunswick dropped a 2-1 decision to Trinity-Pawling in the opening round of the Empire Cup, held at Millbrook on Friday. Both teams return to action at Brunswick’s Hartong Rink on Saturday, as the Bruins will host the consolation and championship games of the Empire Cup.
 
With both teams vying for a post-season playoff bid in the final game of the season on Saturday, Brunswick (14-12-4, 13-10-4) is slotted to play Albany Academy in the consolation final at 3:30 p.m. Trinity-Pawling (12-7-5) will face Millbrook in the championship game at 6:00 p.m.
 
Despite being outshot 35-19, the Pride managed to take a 2-0 lead with 14:29 remaining in the third period. Trinity-Pawling opened the scoring with 11:01 left second frame on a power-play goal. The Pride added an insurance goal 3:31 into the third period for the 2-0 advantage.
 
Brunswick trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 6:08 left in the game on Christian LeSueur’s team-leading 15th goal of the season.
 
The Bruins added an extra skater in the final minute of the game but could not net the equalizer.
