Wrestlers Earn Historic Second Place Finish at New England’s
Brunswick finished second overall at the 44-team NEISWA Championships hosted by Tabor Academy. The Bruins wrapped up the two-day tourney with 170 team points, just 17 points behind the overall winner, Belmont Hill. Adding to the highest team finish in Brunswick history, the Bruins crowned two individual champions, as Chris Perry (113 lbs.) and Lachlan Rosato (220 lbs.) reached the top of the podium on Saturday.
The two champions are the first since 2007 for Brunswick.
Perry, the top-seeded wrestler at 113 pounds, steamrolled through his weight class. The freshman earned a pair of pins in the first two rounds and picked up a dominating 16-0 technical fall in the semifinals. Perry capped his championship run with another pin in the finals.
Rosato, opened the tournament with a bye from his third-seed position at 220. The senior advanced with a pin in the round of 16 and a 5-3 win against the sixth-seed in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Rosato pinned the #2 seed to advance to the championship round against the top seed. Rosato and the #1 seed from BB&N battled into overtime, as Rosato won the title with a match-ending takedown, 6-4.
Six other Bruins earned podium results, as Nick Bell (132) and Tim Saunders (182) finished in second place. Will Donovan (120) took in fourth, while John DeLucia and Jack Ocken earned fifth-place accolades and Clayton Ostrover (170) finished sixth. The eight Bruins all qualified for the upcoming Prep Nationals, held at Lehigh University on February 23-24.
Earning the second-place team results, the Bruins picked up needed points up and down the roster. Harry Fett (three wins), Mclain Kingery (one win), and Nadji Ngbokoli (one win) were vital parts of a deep and talented roster in 2017-18.
