Hockey Wins Home Finale

Brunswick picked up a key 4-3 win against Albany Academy in the Bruins’ home finale at Hartong Rink on Wednesday. With the victory, Brunswick (13-10-4, 12-9-4) continues to solidify its chances for a NEPSIHA post-season bid.

 

After an opening goal by the Cadets in the first period, the Bruins answered at 10:34 in the opening frame with a goal by Nick Boardman (4^th goal).

 

In the second period the Bruins tacked on two more goals to take a 3-1 lead. Christian LeSueur (13^th goal) scored on a power-play at 15:25, while Patrick Burkinshaw added an even-strength tally with 96 seconds left to play in the period.

 

Albany made it a one-goal contest late in the third period, netting a short-handed goal at 13:30.

 

The Bruins countered just under two minutes later, as Burkinshaw netted his second goal of the contest and third of the season, giving Brunswick a 4-2 lead.

 

Albany tightened the game in the final minutes, scoring a goal with an extra skater with 64 seconds left to play. Trailing 4-3, the Cadets kept the pressure on the Brunswick defense, but Bruins goalie Dan Dachille (22 saves) made several point-blank stops in the final minute to preserve the win.

On Saturday, the Bruins head to the Gunnery Showcase to play national power Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) at 1:00 p.m.
