Hockey Falls to #1 Salisbury in Overtime

Undefeated and top-ranked Salisbury netted an overtime goal to thwart the upset-minded Bruins, as the Crimson Knights left Hartong Rink with a 3-2 win on Monday. Salisbury (16-0-1) did not hold a lead until netting the O.T. goal, as Brunswick (10-9-3, 9-8-3) twice owned one-goal advantages in the thrilling contest.

The Bruins first lit the lamp at 5:52 in the opening period, as Tom Richter (3rd goal) finished off a rebound at the crease.

The Brunswick lead was short-lived, as Salisbury answered with a goal 43 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1.

In the second period, Brunswick’s PJ Neal redirected Ryan Carmichael’s power-play slap-shot past the Salisbury goalie at 1:58, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. The goal was Neal’s second on the season.

Salisbury countered with its own power-play tally at 9:05, tying the game at 2-2.

After a scoreless third period, the Crimson Knights ended the game 89 seconds into the 5:00 overtime frame. Salisbury finished the contest with a doorstep goal set-up by a crisp feed from behind the Brunswick net.

Both goalies saw plenty of action, as Brunswick’s Dan Dachille made 41 saves, while Salisbury’s netminder Bryan McGrath collected 34 stops.
