Second Half Surge Halts Basketball

Holding a slim lead in the opening minutes in the second half, RCDS closed out the game against Brunswick with a double-digit run, topping the Bruins inside Dann Gym, 70-55. The FAA setback drops the Bruins to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while the Wildcats move to 8-7 and 3-5 in FAA action.

 

Trailing 30-29 at the intermission, the Bruins stayed within a couple of baskets of the Wildcats until the seven-minute mark, when the visitors started their decisive close-out run.

 

Holding a 47-40 lead with over six minutes to play, the Wildcats expanded their advantage with a 13-5 run by the 3:50 mark.

 

Both teams added 10 points apiece over the final minutes for the 70-55 final.

 

Jack Molloy paced the Bruins with 17 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, while Graham Pierce netted nine points. Harrison Caponiti chipped in six points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds.

 

Neither team shot particularly well from downtown, as the Bruins hit 4-14, while the Wildcats netted 5-20 from behind the arc. The Bruins held a 33-24 rebounding advantage, but were outshot from the free throw line by the Wildcats. RCDS sank 17-22 shots from the line, compared to the Bruins’ solid 9-11 shooting from the charity stripe.

 

The Bruins head to Greens Farms for an FAA tilt on Wednesday, January 31.
