Swimmers Stay Undefeated with Victory over Suffield
Brunswick moved to 7-0 on the season following a 93-88 win over Suffield at Mehra Natatorium on Saturday. The five-point win over the Tigers was the first-ever victory by the Bruins over the traditional New England powerhouse.
Brunswick set a number of pool records, including the 200-medley relay, as the quartet of Christian Farricker, Cole Pierce, Marcus Hodgson and Keegan Drew finished in 1:37.46. The same Bruin foursome raced to a pool-record time in the 400-freestyle relay (3:10.85).
Brunswick finished 1-3 in all three relays, as the hosts also won the 200-freestyle relay. Alexander Hazlett, Michael O'Malley, Thacher Scannell and Nico Apostolides finished the 200-freestle in 1:30.99.
Hodgson set a solo pool record, winning the 50-freestyle (21.22), while Scannell’s first-place time of 52.30 in the 100-butterly was a new pool mark as well. Scannell added another win at the meet, taking first in the 200-IM (1:57.23).
Pierce was the other solo winner for Brunswick, taking the top spot in the 100-backstroke, finishing with a time of 54.97.
The Bruins have a pair of home meets remaining in February. Following the local meets, Brunswick will take part in a trio of tournaments, capped by the New England Championships in early March, where they will find Suffield (3-4) and the other elite teams from the region.
