Basketball Sets Season Scoring Mark in Win

Brunswick topped RCDS 89-83 on Monday, setting a season high in scoring in the FAA contest. Brunswick’s Jack Molloy (30 points) and Khari Wilson (26 points) both set career highs, as the tandem accounted for 56 of the Bruins’ 89 points in the road win.

The Bruins (3-9, 2-3) led by as many as 14 points over the Wildcats, as the visitors took a 45-36 lead into intermission.

However, Rye battled back late in the game.

In the frantic final minute of action, Brunswick’s Trystan Joseph banked home a three-pointer to give the visitors an 86-79 lead with 37 seconds left to play.

On the next possession, RCDS sank a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 86-81. Following the two points at the stripe, the Wildcats forced a Brunswick turnover and called a timeout.

After the stoppage, RCDS scored a lay-up on the inbounds pass, making it an 86-83 contest.

Rye forced another Brunswick turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass, but the Wildcats missed a jumper, as Wilson grabbed the rebound with 16.2 seconds left and was fouled. Wilson hit both ends of the one-and-one to give the Bruins an 88-83 lead.

In the final seconds, Wilson went back to the line and sank one of two free throws, giving the Bruins an 89-83 lead that held up as the final score.

Molloy finished with a career-best 30 points on 12-17 shooting, including 3-4 from downtown. Wilson finished with a personal-best 26 points, netting 7-10 from the free throw line and 9-13 from the floor, while grabbing eight rebounds. Joseph was a perfect 4-4 from the field, chipping in 10 points for Brunswick, as Harrison Caponiti grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Brunswick returns to action with a road game against FAA foe Hamden Hall on Thursday, January 25.
