Wrestlers Takes Silver at Brunswick Invitational

Brunswick finished second to Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) at its own Brunswick invitational Tournament held at Burke Field House on Saturday. In the 43rd installment of the event, Bruins finished with 207.5 points, just 6.5 points behind NMH, as Greens Farms was a distant third (125.5) in the 12-team tournament. The second-place finish by Brunswick snapped a string of seven straight first-place wins by the Bruins.

After 392 matches at the tournament were completed, Sal Jones from Long Island Lutheran was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. Jones was the top seed and winner at 120 pounds.

Overall, the seeding held to form as all 14 top seeds won their respective weight classes, as 11 championship matches were #1 vs. #2 seeds.

In what turned out to be a two-team race for the overall crown, the Bruins and the NMH Hoggers combined for 15 of the 28 finalists. The teams matched up four times in the championship round. The Hoggers were 3-1 against the Bruins in the title bouts, picking up head-to-head victories against Brunswick at 132, 145, and 195, while the Bruins took first at 220.

Lachlan Rosato (220) and John DeLucia (170) won their individual weight class for Brunswick. Last year, DeLucia won a title at the 152-pound weight class.

Five other Bruins worked their way to the finals (Chris Perry-120, Nick Bell-132, Nadji Ngbokoli-145, Tim Saunders-182, and Jack Ocken-195), giving Brunswick plenty of team points.

Overall, the Bruins led the tournament with 37 individual wins and 27 pins.
