Brunswick finished second at the 38th annual Michael O’Connell Wrestling Tournament at Pearl River High School on Thursday. The Bruins collected three individual champions at the 16-team tourney, garnering 170.5 total team points, as Manhasset took top honors with 215 points. A strong team showing allowed the Bruins to hold off Pearl River by just 5.5 points for second place.
Chris Perry (120 lbs.), tri-captain John DeLucia (160 lbs.) and Timothy Saunders (182 lbs.) were individual champions for Brunswick. In addition, Perry received M.O.W. recognition for the weight class range 99-145 pounds.
Fellow captains Jack Ocken (195 lbs.) and Lachlan Rosato (220 lbs.) led a group of four Bruins that were finalists at the tournament, as Will Donovan (113 lbs.) and Harry Fett (152 lbs.) also took second place.
Nick Bell had another good tournament showing with a third-place finish, while Nadji Ngbokoli took fourth place. Mclain Kingery won two matches on the day, while Jackson Wolfram won a match for the Bruins.
