Hockey Wins First Game at Holiday Tourney

Brunswick won its first game at the Nichols-Belmont Hill Holiday Tournament on Thursday, topping Nichols by one goal, 4-3. The Bruins (5-4-1) continue with two scheduled games on Friday to determine seeds for the eight-team tourney that concludes on Saturday, December 30.

 

Brunswick’s Edward Glassmeyer netted two goals, including the eventual game-winner with just over five minutes remaining in the game on the ice at Belmont Hill.

 

In the first period, Glassmeyer notched his first goal of the season to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

 

Nichols (Buffalo, N.Y.) answered with a two-goal run to take a 2-1 lead with less a minute left in the first stanza.

 

Brunswick countered with two goals in the second period, regaining the lead at 3-2. Jack Forrest collected his team-leading eighth goal to tie the game for the Bruins, while teammate Charles Shaffer netted his seventh goal of the year to give Brunswick its second one-goal lead of the game with just over eight minutes to play in the second period.

 

The Vikings tied the game at three with a goal near the midway point of the third period before Glassmeyer’s decisive tally at 9:57 gave the Bruins a 4-3 advantage with 9:57 on the clock. Solid team play by the Bruins down the stretch sealed the win, as Brunswick goalie Dan Dachille made 19 saves in the contest.

 

On Friday, the Bruins will face Rivers at 11:00 a.m. and New Hampton at 8:00 p.m.
