Football Players Earn Post-Season Awards

Five football players earned post-season accolades from the Erickson League and the NEPSAC, as a quintet of Bruins earned all-league nods, while four players picked up All-New England honors.

Senior Nick Henkel (Greenwich, Conn.) joins classmates Harrison Caponiti (Rye, N.Y.) and Sean Amill (Greenwich, Conn.) with the all-league nod, as juniors Nick Villis (Armonk, N.Y.) and Cornelius Johnson (Greenwich, Conn.) were also honored by the Erickson League.

Additionally, Johnson and Henkel were also named to the NEPSAC’s All-New England Class A First Team, while Caponiti and Amill were honorable mention choices.

Henkel, a three-time all-league selection, is the Erickson League’s player of the year on offense for the second year in a row. The quarterback earned his third All-New England award as well, following another strong season at the helm of the Brunswick offense, tossing 23 touchdowns and 1,910 yards in just eight games.

Johnson, an honorable mention selection a year ago in the Erickson League, led Brunswick receivers with 33 catches (485 yards), while scoring seven touchdowns this past season.

Amill, another wide out for the Bruins, added 28 catches, leading the team in receiving yards (490) and touchdowns (8). On his way to earning his first all-league selection, Amill also added a career-long 75-yard score against Avon Old Farms.

Caponiti picks up his first all-league award, playing both tight end and defensive end for the Bruins. At tight end, Caponiti grabbed 22 passes (355 yards) and scored three touchdowns this year. As a defensive end, Caponiti collected 36 tackles, a team-high 15 tackles for loss (TFL), and 4.5 sacks.

Villis, an inside linebacker for the Bruins, led the team with 116 tackles (83 solo), 10.5 TFL, two forced fumbles, and a sack on his way to his first all-league selection.
