Brunswick held a 1-0 halftime lead over Worcester Academy, but a pair of second half goals by the Rams, ranked sixth in New England, halted the upset bid by the Bruins on Cosby Field on Saturday.
Nick Boardman opened the scoring for the Bruins (7-7-1) in the opening stanza, setting up a goal by Will Maynard. On the scoring run, Boardman took possession of the ball near midfield, made two good moves past some Worcester defenders and placed nice through ball to Maynard. Maynard beat the Worcester keeper one-on-one, netting his first goal of the season.
Holding the 1-0 lead in the second half, the Brunswick defense was under consistent pressure over the final 45 minutes.
Worcester broke through with the game-tying goal at the 70th minute, and took the lead five minutes later, as the Rams finished a corner kick on a header, giving Worcester a 2-1 lead.
Brunswick’s Harry Barringer collected 11 saves on the day, including some impressive stops against clear scoring opportunities by Worcester (14-1-3).
