Nick Boardman’s Four Goals Propel Soccer to Victory

Nick Boardman set a career-high with four goals in a 4-2 win against Millbrook on Wednesday. Boardman netted a pair in each half to help boost Brunswick's record to 8-7-1 on the season.

The visiting Bruins opened the scoring at the 18th minute, as Boardman finished off a misplayed ball by the Millbrook keeper following a crossing pass by Will McKinnon.

Boardman made it a 2-0 game five minutes later, polishing off a nice through ball from teammate Stevie Lopez. On the tally, Boardman weaved through the Millbrook defense and beat the keeper top left.

Millbrook countered a few minutes before halftime, as a deflected shot from 25-yards out got past Brunswick goalie Erik Meindl.

With his team leading 2-1 to start the second half, Boardman collected a long pass from Henry Foster at the 57th minute. The Brunswick striker knifed his way through Millbrook's defenders once again for the goal to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage.

Millbrook’s striker countered with another goal at the 63rd minute to narrow the Brunswick lead to 3-2.

The intensity of the game rose in the final minutes before Boardman notched his career-best tally, and 13th on the year, in the 89th minute to secure the win. On the insurance goal, Ben Israel fed Boardman in front of the 18, and the senior captain worked himself open for the final scoring tally.

For the game, the Bruins outshot Millbrook 14-8, with Meindl picking up four saves in the first half. Harry Barringer played the second half in goal for Brunswick and collected three stops. The Bruins’ defense, led by Ben Powers, Jamie Polak, Jeffrey Ramirez, and Jack Withstandley, along with Foster, worked hard to mark and defend the talented Millbrook striker all game.

On Saturday, November 4, the Bruins host Worcester Academy, one of the strongest soccer programs in New England, on Cosby Field at 4:00 p.m.
