Impressive Debut for Crew in Hartford

Brunswick got on the water for the first time at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford on Sunday, earning some impressive results to start the fall season. Taking top honors were Christian Ruf in single competition, while Ben Shore and Christopher Bass teamed up to take gold in the double.
                    
In the 2.25-mile upstream course on the Connecticut River, Ruf cruised to a top finish in the men’s junior division with a time of 17:56.08, more than 30 seconds ahead of the second-place rower. Ruf will once again represent Brunswick at the Head of the Charles later this month.
 
Joining Ruf at the Head of the Charles are Shore and Bass, winners of the two-person men’s junior event. The duo crossed the line with a winning time of 18:39.64, over 26 seconds faster than the next team.
 
In Varsity Eight action, Brunswick entered two boats in the competitive men’s junior division. The Bruins top boat took fifth place, while Brunswick’s second entry finished in 13th place out of 30 competitors.
 
The Bruins also entered a pair of Second Varsity boats in the men’s second junior event, placing 10th and 25th in a field of 38 boats.
 
In the men junior novice eights class, Brunswick’s two entries fared well against 32 other boats, taking third and ninth overall.
