Soccer Breaks Out with 6-0 Win, Aidan Williams Nets a Hat Trick

Brunswick picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, rolling over Gunnery on the road, 6-0. Aidan Williams keyed a second half surge for the Bruins by netting a hat trick in just three minutes of play.

Brunswick (1-4-1) opened the scoring blitz early, as Nick Boardman scored in the third minute of action after finishing off a string of passes from teammates Freddy Gazal and Steve Lopez for the goal.

The Bruins made it a 2-0 game twenty minutes later, as Lopez diced through several Gunnery defenders before knocking in an unassisted tally,

Brunswick kept the offensive pressure on Gunnery with several more shots on goal, but settled for a 2-0 lead at intermission.

Williams started his personal three-goal onslaught in the 66th minute. On the first goal, Lopez found Boardman in the corner 18, playing the ball through to Williams for the finish. A minute later, Williams notched his second goal following a corner kick. Williams struck for a third time in as many minutes after receiving a feed from Lopez and beating the Gunnery keeper one-on-one.

Brunswick substitute George Varvel put his first touch of the game on goal with a one-timer to cap the scoring in the 70th minute, following a nice set-up from Williams. Varvel netted the goal with a deft chip over the Gunnery goalie for the Bruins’ sixth and final tally of the game.

Harry Barringer logged the first 70 minutes of action in goal for Brunswick and made one save, as Eric Meindl played the final 20 minutes and went untested by the Gunnery offense.
