Cross Country Win Streak Hits 66
Brunswick opened the 2017 season with a complete sweep of all six FAA opponents at Sherwood Island State Park on Wednesday. Andres Jasson finished third overall for the Bruins, while three other Brunswick racers finished in the top 10. The six wins pushes the Bruins FAA regular-season winning streak to a remarkable 66 straight, dating back to 2013.
The depth of the Bruins countered FAA foe Hopkins, as the Hilltoppers took the top two spots overall. While Brunswick narrowly bested Hopkins, 27-30, the Bruins outdistanced the five other league opponents by large margins.
In addition to Jasson’s third-place finish (17.32), teammates Wes Peisch (17:56), Kyle Raker (18:42), and Jack Driscoll finished fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, for the Bruins. Driscoll (19:02) passed a pair of Hopkins runners in the last stage to help Brunswick hold off their rivals from New Haven.
Helping the team to victory were fellow Bruins Chris Ramos (11th), Charlie Garland (14th), and Charlie Ciporin (15th), as the trio outkicked Hopkins’ fifth finisher to secure the slim, three-point victory.
The 66-race FAA winning streak is the third longest for the Bruins since 1996, as Brunswick posted conference regular-season win streaks of 97 and 75 races.
Up next for Brunswick is the Choate Invitational on Saturday, September 16.
