Baseball Tops Salisbury

Trailing 5-4 after three innings, Brunswick scored two runs in the later innings to rally past visiting Salisbury on Thursday. Four homers were launched in the non-league game, including one by the Bruins’ Patrick Ryan. With the win, the Bruins improve to 12-3 on the season.

Following a two-run homer and a solo homer by Salisbury in the top of the first inning, Brunswick answered with two runs in the home half of the second inning to  cut the deficit to 3-2. Ryan provided the fireworks for the Bruins with a two-run blast to left field that scored Ryan Hanrahan, who had led off the inning with a single.

The final four-bagger opened the top of the third inning, as Salisbury’s Cam Meyer smacked his second blast of the day to give the Knights a 4-2 advantage. Later in the frame, Salisbury plated its final run on a two-out single, boosting the Knights’ lead to 5-2.

In the bottom of the third, back-to-back singles by Santiago Riera and Charlie Sealy led to a one-out double by Aaron Sabato. The double by Sabato scored both runners and sliced the Salisbury lead to 5-4.

The Bruins tied the game at five in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double by Sealy. Sealy drove in Riera, who had reached base on a fielding error.

In the sixth inning, Brunswick loaded the bases with the first three batters. Ethan Hynes opened the frame with a single, and Luke Fisher and Jake Griffin drew walks to pack the base paths. Riera grounded into a double-play, but Hynes scored from third base for the go-ahead run.

In the top of the seventh, Trystan Sarcone relieved starting pitcher Mike Beniniati. Sarcone struck out the first two batters, including Meyer, before allowing a single to center. With the tying run on base, Sarcone sat down the next Knight on three pitches to preserve the win.

Beninati (2-1) picked up the win, tossing 6.0 innings, while allowing five runs, three earned, and striking out five batters. Sarcone picked up his first save of his career, tossing one scoreless inning, while picking up three strikeouts. On the season, Sarcone has a team-best 37 K’s in 32 innings.

Sealy led the Bruins with two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Sabato added a double and two RBI. Ryan’s two-run blast was his first home run as a Bruin.

Brunswick returns to league action on Friday, May 5, travelling to FAA foe King.
