Brunswick pounded out 15 hits, including seven for extra-bases, on the way to a 14-6 win over Salesian in a six-inning non-league game in New Rochelle, N.Y. Captain Ryan Hanrahan led the Bruins with three hits and three RBI, as Brunswick improves to 11-2 on the season.
Aaron Sabato gave Brunswick a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as the slugger clobbered his second home run in as many days on a full-count offering with two outs. Sabato now has five homers on the season and 10 in his career at Brunswick.
After Salesian tied the game in the bottom of the first, the Bruins exploded for seven runs in the second inning. Ethan Hynes followed with an RBI double to center, plating Ryan, as Sealy was held at third base.
With the Bruins leading 2-1 with one out, Tommy Napolitano drew a walk to load the bases. Consecutive RBI singles by Santiago Riera and Trystan Sarcone followed to give the Bruins a 4-1 lead.
Later in the frame, with the bases still loaded and two outs, Hanrahan sent the trio of Brunswick runners home with a three-run triple that boosted the Bruins’ lead to 7-1. Ryan followed with his second single in the inning, scoring Hanrahan from third and giving the visitors an 8-1 advantage.
In the top of the fourth, Brunswick scored two more runs to build a 10-1 lead. Following a lead-off double by Hanrahan, the Bruins loaded the bases with one out. An Ethan Hynes fielder’s choice scored Hanrahan from third base before Napolitano added an RBI single.
Salesian, aided by a pair of Brunswick fielding errors, scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Bruins’ lead to 10-4.
The hosts added another run in the fifth before Brunswick posted four more runs in the top of the sixth inning during a two-out rally. With the bases loaded, Jack Griffin knocked in a pair of runs with a double to centerfield. Mike Beninati followed with a two-run double to left to give the Bruins a commanding 14-6 lead.
Brunswick reliever Nick Mosher (1-0) picked up the win, tossing the final 2.1 innings. Mosher allowed two earned runs, while adding two strikeouts. Starting pitcher J.D. Sparks went 3.2 innings, allowing four runs, none earned, while picking up five K’s.
