Sailing Finishes Fifth at O’Day Qualifier

Brunswick competed in the O'Day Cup Qualifier Regatta at Hotchkiss on Saturday, placing fifth overall. The Bruins just missed qualifying for the NESSA Fleet Race Championship, as the top four finishers advance to the Championship.

In the fleet race competition, Will George (skipper) and Bay Hodge (crew) sailed in the ‘A Division’ for all eight races. After a slow start due to some unfavorable wind shifts, the tandem managed to sail their way to a fourth-place tie (41 points), as division winner Greenwich High School finished first with 17 points.

In the ‘B Division’, Ryan Heinzerling began as skipper after earning the spot during the week's practices. Heinzerling sailed the first set with veteran Rhett Ullmann (crew) on board. George Coyle took the helm for the next two sets with Heinzerling moving into the crew position. Peter Pillari finished the day as the skipper in the final two races, as the Bruins finished fifth (43 points).

Combining the 41 and 43 points, Brunswick’s 84 team points garnered a fifth-place overall finish at the event. Fairfield Ludlowe High School won the Cup with 54 total team points.
