Six Goal Start Keys #12 Lacrosse Victory

Brunswick opened a Saturday evening contest at Hotchkiss with an impressive six-goal run, eventually topping the Bearcats by an 11-6 margin. The league win boosts the Bruins, ranked #12 nationally in the latest Inside Lacrosse- Under Armour poll, to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in NEW1 conference play.

 

Brunswick started the six-goal run on a goal by Jimmy Heidt (assisted by Xander Dickson at 7:36 in the first quarter. The Bruins closed out the opening quarter with four more goals in the final 4:11, including a pair from Dickson.

 

With the Bruins leading 5-0 to start the second quarter, Harrison Caponiti finished the run with a tally at 10:10 to give the visitors a healthy, six-goal advantage.

 

The Bearcats did not disappear, though, as the hosts countered the Bruins’ run by netting four-straight goals to close out the half.

 

In a tight 6-4 game, Brunswick earned some breathing room with a pair of goals to begin the third quarter, as Cooper Moore and Alex Buckanavage scored to make it an 8-4 contest.

 

Following a Hotchkiss goal at 3:37 in the third quarter, Dickson netted a man-up goal off an assist from Buckanavage with 1:12 remaining in the frame.

 

With his team holding a 9-5 lead to start the fourth quarter, Dickson notched his fourth goal of the game at 9:49 for Brunswick. Buckanavage followed with a tally to give the visitors a 11-5 lead. Hotchkiss added the final goal at 2:12 to cap the scoring.

 

Brunswick goalie Patrick Burkinshaw made eight saves, while face-off specialist Ben Shapiro won 14/21 attempts at the X. Dickson finished with a game-high six groundballs, while Spencer Decker, Jack Montinaro, and Shapiro each grabbed four groundballs for the Bruins.
