Brunswick picked up its sixth shutout win, topping James Monroe H.S. on Saturday, 12-0, in five innings. The Bruins scored multiple runs in four of five innings, as starting pitcher Trystan Sarcone’s ERA stays unblemished at 0.00. The non-league win boosts the Bruins record to 8-1.
Leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Brunswick scored five runs to blow the game open. A trio of bases-loaded walks to Brunswick batters made it a 5-0 game before Ethan Hynes laced a two-run double to right field.
Holding a 7-0 lead after a scoreless fourth inning, Brunswick plated five more runs in the fifth and ended the game early after surpassing the 10-run mercy rule.
In the deciding inning, Brunswick quickly loaded the bases, as pinch-hitter Jack Griffin was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Following a run-scoring double-play that boosted the Brunswick lead to 10-0, Aaron Sabato stepped to the plate. The junior slugger belted a first-pitch, two-run homer to centerfield to give the Bruins a 12-0 lead.
Sarcone (3-0) picked up the win, allowing just two hits, while striking out four batters. On the season, the lefty has tossed 24.0 scoreless innings, maintaining a 0.00 ERA.
Brunswick collected nine hits on the day, including four for extra-bases. Sarcone and Hynes both had two hits, including one double apiece, as Sabato had a single to combine with his two-run blast, his third four-bagger of the season. Ryan Hanrahan added a double and two RBI.
Brunswick returns to action on Monday, April 24, as the Bruins travel to FAA foe Hopkins for a rescheduled game from last week.
