Sparks Pitches Bruins to 1-0 Victory

Brunswick pitcher J.D. Sparks, making his first start for the Bruins, tossed a three-hit, complete game shutout, as Brunswick beat Greens Farms on Thursday, 1-0. The FAA road win is the fifth shutout victory on the season for the 7-1 Bruins.

Brunswick, 5-0 in FAA action, scored its lone run in the top of the first inning. Following a two-out single by Aaron Sabato and a walk to Ryan Hanrahan, Patrick Ryan drove in Sabato with an RBI single to right field.

That was all the run support needed for Sparks and the Bruins, as the Brunswick hurler kept the Dragons at bay for seven innings.

Sparks cruised through most of the game, minus a small jam in the sixth inning, as the Dragons put a pair of runners on base with a walk and a single with one out. Consecutive put-outs by the Bruins, including an inning-ending strikeout by Sparks, ended the threat as Sparks pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to end the game.

Six Bruins had hits, with Charlie Sealy leading the Bruins with a pair of singles. Neither team had an extra-base hit in the game.

Sparks (1-1) tossed 7.0 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out six batters, scattering three singles, and walking one batter. The righty picked up his second career win as a Bruin.

Brunswick returns to action with another FAA contest at Hopkins on Friday, April 21.
