Taft Edges Golf Team in Match Play

Taft edged Brunswick in an 18-hole match-play event by an 11.5-9.5 margin on Wednesday at the Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. On the day, the Bruins won three of seven individual matches against the Rhinos, while three other Bruins earned team points.

The 9-2 Bruins are scheduled to play Masters on Monday, April 24, at the Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, N.Y., before hosting the annual Brunswick Invitational at the Round Hill Club in Greenwich on Thursday, April 27.

In the closely-played contest against Taft, six of seven matches were decided on the 18th green.

The Rhinos, generally considered to be one of the top prep teams in New England this season, were in a stroke-by-stroke battle with the Bruins over the challenging 7,000-yard layout at the Century CC. Collectively, both teams scored well in the cold, wet conditions, earning a number of birdies as well as an eagle.

Brunswick’s Matt Camel (3 pts.), Reid Robbins (2 pts.), and Matty Dzialga (2 pts.) were match winners, while Ben Carpenter (1 pt.), Charlie Marvin (1 pt.), and Thomas VanBelle (.5 pt.) scored for the Bruins.
