Playing against FAA rival Hopkins in a rare non-league contest on Saturday, Brunswick lost a 4-3 decision on the Richman Tennis Courts. The Bruins (1-2), playing a challenging early-season schedule, host St. Luke’s in an FAA match on Wednesday.
After Hopkins won the doubles point, the teams began the six singles matches.
Following Brunswick’s Aiden Reilly win at #6 in swift fashion (6-1, 6-1), teammate Ryan Glanville added a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory at #4 to give the hosts a 2-1 lead in the match.
However, the veteran Hopkins line-up countered with a pair of straight-set wins at #5 and #2, giving the Hilltoppers a 3-2 lead with two matches left to play.
Evan Lee’s 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 singles tied the match for the Bruins, as the match at #1 singles would determine the winner of the overall match.
In the final match, Brunswick’s Willie Turchetta dropped the opening set 7-5. In the second set, Turchetta took his rival to a tiebreaker, falling 7-3 in the extra session.
