Brunswick knocked off sixth-ranked Gunnery on senior night on Friday in Hartong Rink, 3-0. The win is the fourth victory over a ranked opponent in the last 15 days for the 13-7-4 Bruins.
After pinging the Gunnery pipes twice in the opening moments of the game, the Bruins netted a pair of goals a few minutes later, as the team impoved to 8-0-2 at Hartong this season.
Brunswick took a 1-0 lead in the first frame, as Wilson Stephenson, following an Edward Glassmeyer shot, slipped in a rebound over the glove of the Gunnery goalie at 7:41. Stephenson’s tally was his second goal of the season.
Later in the first period, Brendan Gregoire made it a 2-0 game for the Bruins, finishing off a 2-on-2 break. Gregoire collected the loose puck in front of the net for the goal at 13:59 after a shot from Glassmeyer.
Capping the scoring was senior co-captain Nick VanBelle’s tally off an intercepted pass in the Gunnery zone at 7:43 in the second period. VanBelle’s goal from the slot was his team-leading 20th of the season.
Brunswick goalie Strauss Mann collected the shut-out win, turning away all 37 shots on goal.
Congratulations to the five senior skaters who were recognized tonight: VanBelle, Mann, Tommy Napolitano, Kineo Gorman, and Grey Owens.
