Brunswick Swimmers Beat Hopkins

Following the first setback of the season last weekend, Brunswick returned to its winning ways in the water, besting Hopkins, 96-80, on Saturday. The road win improves the squad to 8-1 for the season.

The Bruins won the 200 medley relay, as Cole Pierce, Marcus Hodgson, Christian Farricker, and Keegan Drew finished in 1:42.40.  Hodgson added a win in the 200-IM (1:58.96), countering wins by Hopkins in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and diving.

The 200 freestyle relay team of James Simone, Will Powers, Drew, and Hodgson broke a school record: 1:30.17, just one-one hundredth off the pace set by the Hopkins quartet.

Brunswick closed out the meet with a number of wins, including sweeping the 500 freestyle, as Farricker, Pierce, and Simone finished one-two-three for the Bruins.

In addition, Alex Morgan won the 100 backstroke (57.38) for Brunswick, while Hodgson took the 100 breast stroke, as Farricker, Powers, Simone, and Pierce took the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay (1:40.01).

Another Bruin qualified for New England Championships, as Ned Camel’s time in the 100 breast stroke gave Brunswick its 21st qualifier.

The team will compete in its last regular-season meet next week, facing Northfield Mount Hermon and Westminster on Westminster’s campus.
