Basketball Comeback Falls Short

Despite a strong shooting performance, Brunswick fell to Hamden Hall in an FAA contest on Wednesday inside Dann Gym, 68-62. The Bruins now stand at 3-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

For the game, Brunswick shot an impressive 10-22 from behind the arc and 25-58 overall, while holding the Hornets to 4-22 from long distance.

Hamden Hall (11-4, 5-2), using a decisive height advantage, owned a 39-26 rebounding lead over the Bruins. Additionally, the Hornets hit 14-22 shots from the charity stripe, while Brunswick only had three free throw attempts and made two.

The two teams played evenly in the opening minutes of the game, before the Hornets opened a double-digit lead in the waning minutes of the first half. Hamden Hall’s lead peaked at 33-20 with just over two minutes left in the half. However, the Bruins roared back to life, closing the gap to 35-27 in the final minutes of the first frame.

In the second half, the Hornets held a double-figure lead until Brunswick made a run in the final three minutes. With his team trailing 62-52, Muna Nwana sank a three-pointer to start a 10-4 run. Charlie Sealy capped the run with a three, setting the score at 66-62 in favor of the Hornets with a minute to play.

After the Sealy three, Hamden Hall milked some of the clock on its offensive possession, but came up empty on a pair of shots from the floor. With under 25 seconds to play, the Bruins pushed the ball up court, but committed a turnover.

The Hornets, holding a 66-62 lead, were sent to the free throw line with 10.2 seconds left. The visitors made both free throws to secure the 68-62 victory.

Cam Kelly, Graham Pierce, and Sealy each netted 13 points for Brunswick. The trio combined to connected on 5-10 shots from downtown, highlighted by Pierce’s 3-4 day from behind the arc.

The Bruins continue with FAA action, heading to RCDS on Friday, January 27.
