Brunswick lost two games at the Winter Classic, hosted by Phillips Exeter on Friday. The Bruins lost the opener, 61-48, to Deerfield and fell in the nightcap to Phillips Andover, 63-42. Brunswick (2-5) wraps up the three-game event against the host school on Saturday at noon.
In the opener, Deerfield jumped out to an early first-half lead, eventually taking a 35-25 lead into the break.
In the second half, Deerfield expanded its lead to open the frame. However, a late comeback by the Bruins in the closing minutes tightened the contest, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit as the Bruins fell 61-48.
Will Marvin paced the Bruins with 15 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Cam Kelly added 11 on 4-5 shooting from the field along with three assists. Muna Nwana added eight points, while Charlie Sealy chipped in seven points and a team-best five rebounds.
In game two against Andover, the Bruins battled with the Big Blue through most of the first half, but a late Andover run set the Bruins back 37-27 at intermission.
Andover expanded its lead in the second half, building a 20-point cushion and cruising to the 63-42 final.
The Big Blue held a decisive 32-19 lead in rebounds, including a 13-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
Marvin and Kelly scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Jack Malloy added eight points to lead the Brunswick offense in game two.
