Six Bruins Wrestle to Nationals

Brunswick brought six wrestlers to the 2023 National Prep Wrestling Championships in Maryland this weekend. 
 
Carlo Tucci ’26 led the Bruins by reaching the Round of 12, also known as the Blood Round. Tucci, who was unseeded coming into the tournament, earned three wins highlighted by a dominant 5-2 win over the #9 seed from John Carroll (MD). Tucci closed out his outstanding freshman season with a 28-8 record including 17 pins. Tucci, a three-sport athlete (Football, Wrestling, Baseball), took 1st at the Rhino Rumble, 1st at the Brunswick Invitational where he won the Most Pins in the Least Time Award, 2nd at Western New Englands, and 4th at New Englands.
 
Tomas Delgado ’23, a three-sport captain for the Bruins (Football, Wrestling, Lacrosse), closed out his wrestling career in style. Before being eliminated from the tournament, Delgado earned wins by pin over wrestlers from Peddie (NJ) and Hill (PA) to bring his pin total on the year to 20. Delgado, who finished his senior season with a 27-11 record, won the Brunswick Invitational, took 3rd at Western New Englands, and 6th at New Englands.
 
Patrick O’Donahue ’25, who also qualified for Nationals last year as a freshman, earned one win at the tournament this year. After falling to the #1 seed from Blair (NJ) who is a Cadet World Champion and a multiple-time National Prep champion, O’Donahue pinned his opponent from All Saints Episcopal (TX). O’Donahue then took another loss, closing out his sophomore season with a 26-10 record and top three placements at four tournaments: Battle on the Bay, Brunswick Invitational, Western New Englands, and New Englands.
 
Additionally, Christian Yanoti ’25, Michael Accetta ’24, and Enzo Vera ’23 made the trip to Maryland, but each went 0-2 in the tournament. Yanoti finished his sophomore season with a 23-12 record including 13 pins and placement at four tournaments. Accetta closed out his junior season with a 29-10 record with 22 pins and top four placement at five tournaments. Vera ended his senior season as the pin leader on the team with 23 wins by fall. Vera won two tournaments and placed in three others, compiling a 30-10 record.
