Haverford Outduels 'Wick at Stephens Squash Center
Varsity squash hosted Haverford on Friday night at Stephens Squash Center, ultimately falling to the visitors in a closely contested match by a score of 4-3.
It was a rematch of the two teams’ previous encounter in December, when Haverford also won a 4-3 decision.
Brunswick took an early lead in this match, as Will Newman at #2 and Henry Raine at #4 won their matches for the Bruins. Haverford pulled two matches back at #6 and #5 to level the score at two.
Meanwhile, Johan Hodgson was battling a tough opponent at #1 and came close to winning the third game before eventually being defeated.
Oliver Velasco pulled the match back even with a 3-1 win at #3.
And in a tense match at #7, Haverford's Jamie Stait overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the decisive match and take the victory 4-3.
“If these two teams played ten times, I'm confident it would be split 5-5,” Brunswick coach Ryan Abraham said.
Brunswick hosts Darien High School and St. Andrew’s School (Fla.) in two matche on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
