Bruins Bounce Back, Split Weekend Series

Brunswick returned home for the second of a back-to-back with Hill and played a near-complete game to earn a 4-2 victory this afternoon at Hartong Rink.

Junior Sean Gibbons got things going with a nifty spin-o-rama and finish on the backhand (while shorthanded, no less) and senior alternate captain Eli Friedman extended the lead to two with a shot past the Blues goaltender and just inside the left post -- 2-0 after one and the Bruins held a 17-5 shot advantage.

The opening line says "near-complete," as the first five minutes of the second were not 'Wick's best, with the home team struggling to get pucks deep and stifle the Hill transition game. The visitors tied it before four minutes had been played.

But the Bruins dug in, regained the territorial edge, and continued to push until they found the net -- this time on senior Daniel Hu's one-time slapper from just below the right faceoff dot after a nice backhand feed from junior Charlie Vincent. (It looked a little like a shooting drill in practice the other night!)

In the third, the Brown and White played a winning brand of hockey and limited Hill to shots from the outside before putting the game away in the final minute. Junior Jake Minella won a board battle just inside the offensive blueline to spring senior co-captain James Shannon in on two on one with Gibbons, who buried his second of the night to seal the win.

Good defensive effort all around.

Exams next. Hoosac after those on Saturday -- 5 p.m. at Hartong.
