Brunswick went back on the road — where the team has been very good this season — and notched another league victory against Millbrook by a score of 4-2 this evening.
After falling behind midway the first, the Bruins answered later in the period after sophomore Tucker Spiess got in on the forecheck and tried to stuff one on the wrap-around — the puck ending up on the stick of senior Daniel Hu in the low slot and then in the back of the net. 1-1 after 18 minutes.
’Wick played a solid second — driving wide, putting shots on net, and establishing a forecheck — and took the lead after an offensive zone faceoff, when junior Sean Gibbons won a puck below the goal line and found classmate Drew DellaSalla for what looked like an easy one from five feet above the blue paint.
DellaSalla added his second of the night on the first shift of the third, but the Mustangs didn’t go away and stayed in the contest with a tally just 90 seconds later. 3-2 Bruins with 15:42 to play.
The score stayed that way until the final minute despite two Millbrook power-play opportunities and a few odd-man rushes down the stretch. Kudos to senior alternate captain Collin Eschricht for a beautifully timed slide to break up a “royal road” pass on a late 2 v 1 and for icing things with an empty netter from his own goal line with 30 seconds remaining on the clock.
