It was a bit of a sloppy start for the Bruins, but they ultimately sealed a 4-2 victory over Gunn on Saturday with a strong third period and a well-deserved empty net goal by senior captain Nic Wright.
Junior Sebi DeAngelis opened up the scoring just four minutes into the contest, and sophomore goaltender LJ Bylow kept Frederick Gunn's forwards in check with the score 1-0 after the first.
Sophomore Mike Contino kept it rolling with a crafty bank shot off the back of Gunn's goaltender early in the second. Frederick Gunn didn't let up though, taking advantage of defensive lapses to keep the score within one.
Senior Teddy Danforth provided a bit of a cushion to make it 3-1 heading into the third, but some tired legs led to subpar backchecking, and Frederick Gunn eventually scored with five minutes to go in regulation.
Sophomores Teddy Cooney and Jack O'Connor played tough throughout the contest, and Miller Yonce earned a pair of assists as well. Bylow was the clear star of the game, though, stopping a dozen odd man rushes and helping to kill off seven Brunswick penalties.
The team looks forward to avenging last season's OT loss to Kent on Wednesday at Hartong Rink - 5:30 p.m. puck-drop.
