Split-Squad Edges Hamden Hall

In a rare split-squad cross-town pair of matches, the varsity golf team went deep into its roster to defeat two FAA rivals Tuesday, sweeping Greenwich Country Day at Burning Tree CC and edging Hamden Hall at the Stanwich Club.

Squaring off against the top of New England power Hamden Hall's lineup in a four vs. four aggregate stroke total match at the Stanwich Club, the Bruins were paced by a stellar even-par 36 fired by junior Harry Bonomo, who answered the call and played his best golf of the season at a most opportune time, eclipsing junior co-captain Sam O'Hara by one stroke, followed by sophomore stalwart Will Harned's 39, and junior Fritz Smith's 46, running 'Wick's record to a perfect 7-0.

The much-anticipated matchup on the challenging championship Stanwich layout featured some stellar shotmaking on both sides, as the visiting Hornets were led by nationally-ranked Ben James' 37.  Brunswick's sub-40 individual match stroke average was once again on display with its four-score total of 157 as it looks forward to next Wednesday's 15-team field in the Western New England Prep Golf Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn.
