Varsity Tennis Gets 4th Win

The varsity tennis team earned another home win, as the Bruins hosted and defeated Kent, 7-0, on Saturday.

Although, both teams were missing a couple players with Easter weekend travel, the boys still took advantage of the great tennis weather. The coaches decided to play the singles matches first and had the top-five go out first on the five courts. As the matches began to finish, #6 singles went on next followed by all the doubles.

Brunswick was up 5-0 at this point.

Thomas Ewald, in his rookie year, who is usually a doubles player, was given a shot to test test his mental and physical game at the #6 singles spot today. He lost a close first set 5-7 after a few too many unforced errors, and a steadier game from his opponent.

Each of the doubles games was finishing one after the other. Soon, Brunswick had earned the doubles point and everyone was now watching Ewald as he was the last match remaining. He found himself down 1-4 in the second set, but then suddenly switched up tactics and clawed his way back to win five consecutive games to level the match at one set a piece.

After taking a 4-2 lead in the super-tiebreaker, he then kept the momentum to win 10-3.
